Reconstructing the town square, city of Oudenaarde, Belgium: 3 years after planting, the new trees are greening the city centre

In 2016-2017, the market square of Oudenaarde was redesigned. The objective was to restore its historical function and to turn it back into a pleasant and much-visited public space. The makeover ended with the planting of 25 indigenous trees. 3 years after planting, these trees now characterize the renewed city center.
The decission to add TerraCottem Arbor soil conditioner to the substrate was made to make the most of the limited rooting space. Optimizing root development and water retention in such a limited growing volume was key. A first evaluation was made 1.5 year after planting:
Today 3 years after planting, these pictures were taken. The young trees now are "young adults" with a healthy green canopy and ever more voluminous appearance.
